A Guide to the Seven Chakras

 “Energy Centers” or “Chakra” as they refer to the same thing. In the ancient Sanskrit language of India, the seven chakras are the human body’s source of spiritual or energy power.

The term chakra comes from the Sanskrit word cakra, roughly translated as a disk or wheel.

The chakras flow around a vertical line in our bodies from the crown of the head to the base of the spine, supporting health and vibrancy.

Seven chakras compose the chakra system:

The Root (First) Chakra or Muladhara

This chakra is situated at the base of the spine and is associated with the spinal column, kidneys, adrenal glands, coccygeal body, and gonads and perception of the world.

The colour of this chakra is red, and its element is earth.

Blockage will result in back pain, compulsive behaviour and addiction.

The Sacral (Second) Chakra or Svadhisthana.

This chakra is situated just below the navel and is associated with the emotions and desires, including sexual arousal.

The physical organs it is associated with are the urinary bladder, kidneys, and spleen.

It represents the “liquids” of the body, blood circulation, urine production and elimination, and sexual body fluids.

The colour of this chakra is orange and its element is water.

Blockage will result in sexual dysfunction, infertility, and kidney problems

The Solar Plexus (Third) Chakra or Manipura

This chakra is situated above the navel, in the solar plexus.

The physical organs this chakra is associated with are the bladder, nervous system, stomach, liver, pancreas, and adrenal glands.

It is responsible for the distribution and regulation of metabolic energy throughout the body.

It governs self-esteem, motivation the ability to judge,

The colour of this chakra is yellow, and its element is fire.

Blockage will result in anger problems, emotional problems, ulcers, acid reflux, and digestion problems

The Heart (Fourth) Chakra or Anahata

This chakra is in your heart. This is the bridge between the physical and the divine or spiritual, upper chakras. The organs associated with this chakra are the endocrine glands, immune system, circulatory system, blood, heart and the thymus gland.

This chakra influences the feelings of compassion, love and being loved.

 The colour of this chakra is green, and its element is air.

Blockage will result in inability to show empathy, coldness and emotional distance

The Throat (Fifth) Chakra or Visuddha

This chakra is situated in the throat area. This is the “perfection” template of the body. The organs associated with this chakra are the bronchial system, the vocal cords, the lungs, the parathyroid glands, and the thyroid gland.

The areas it governs are feelings, thoughts and their expression, and communication or self-expression.

The colour of this chakra it is blue, and its element is sound.

 The blockage will result in lack of creativity, problems with teeth, sore throat.

The Third Eye (Sixth) Chakra or Ajna

This chakra is situated in the middle of the forehead.

 The organ associated with this chakra is the pineal gland and it is associated with clairvoyance, imagination and intuition.

It governs visualization, intuition, spirituality and the inherent need in humans

to search for the meaning of life.

 The colour of this chakra is indigo, and its element is light.

Crown Chakra (Seventh) of Sahasrara

This chakra is situated on top of the head and is connected to spirituality and self-enlightenment. It is also called the “open door” To experience the divine of life
